Re: origin and xyz axes

Sorry Robert but unless the issues of orientation in the euclidian sense are properly addressed rather than skirted around, GS is never going to get past being a kids toy (IMHO) I have tried your suggestions to my queries on controlling a model and they dont seem to run properly. There's no proper g...

Re: origin and xyz axes

Thanx Rob Im a night owl here its 6.13 am I will follow through on your replies and try to get a method I can work with confidence. I can live with x = r arrow, y = up arrow and z= out from screen. I assume this stays fixed (in the screen and yourself) and the model just swivels around in that space...

one step forward two steps back

Hi Ive managed by circuitous means to import a dxf model from SU thru to .off and into GS. I can even start the model (a unit cube) in full screen , grounded? and vert edge on in ortho view. I can show the axes of symmetry correctly BUT the slightest job with my mouse and my orientation is lost and ...

origin and xyz axes

Hi All I feel like Im all over the place here. Can anyone show how I can revert to the sane world of an origin 0,0,0 and xyz axes as typical of 3D graphics apps I havent found a reliable way to ground say opening a basic tetrahedron and flattening one face onto the xy plane with one edge on the x ax...

Re: creating mitre angles for faces

Here is another pic I wanted to post with my other reply but it wouldnt let me ? I played with some of 3d distrotions in SU17 briefly also the hole creation and intersection of models BTW in no way am I affiliated or trying to plug SU. It was mainly aimed at architects and furniture designers - and ...

Re: Showing vector angles

Thanx PK I'll give it a try, my range of glues was limited at the time. Drinking straw are polypropylene which is (along with Polyethylene notoriously difficult to glue) but I came across this on AZ https://www.amazon.co.uk/CLEAR-ADHESIVE-Polypropylene-Polyethylene-Silicone/dp/B006U49M3G it has a ba...

Thanks BM lic key all installed v easy Did some trivial tests on importing dxf into SU17 - very straight forward with an icosahedron I assume the point data may be influenced by how the net is orientated? Is there any way to get one face of a solid coplanar with say my x,y plane (ie 0,0), as at pres...

Re: creating mitre angles for faces

Hi Rob have ordered GS, DXF imports to SU with the cube as you suggest

Holy Batschwepps Batman, like all my birthdays came at once. This tiling will take some digestion once I get my lic key thru. Just the toy for those with too much time on their hands and 4k to blow on a cnc table

:P

Re: newbie querie

thanx for that Im working my way up the learning curve It seems to me you have some ground-breaking s/w developed over 15yrs? and is very extensive. I am surprised that it hasnt achieved greater notoriety. Perhaps the proles only see a kids toy for folding paper (origami). Of course your followers k...

Re: Showing vector angles

Thats real neat JW but I dont like the price tag on the Knex product bits of plastic more expensive than great stella. I tried to use drinking straws once but found they were made of a plastic with no known adhesives (short of hot melting) I like the idea of wooden satay sticks and a hot glue gun, t...

creating mitre angles for faces

Hi Stellas I am joining the band of great stella users I was impressed by the work on the london gherkin https://www.software3d.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69&start=30 One query raised by the OP was a means of generating dihedral angles on tiles (faces) to allow models to be finely assembled from...

Hi Stellas Looks fantastic. I have dabbled with geo solids and have been fascinated at the recurrence of certain irrational factors pi tau root 2, root 3 root 5 and their appearance in dimensions, eg vertices, vert height across faces, angles etc Has anyone successfully used the export of model data...
