Re: Face types and Vertex types

By "face type" I refer not just to face shape, but also to how the face fits into the symmetry of the overall model. For example, the snub cube contains two different triangular face types. Both are equilateral, but one connects to three other triangles at its edges, and the other connects to two tr...

Perhaps it is just you :)

You'll find it as "Stella Library->Geodesic Hemispheres->4-Frequency Icosahedral Geodesic Hemisphere" (either using the model drop-downs, or the tree in Ctrl+N).

Thanks Marcel! I tried them, and the OFF files seem to open easily in Stella. along with their nets. All 357 could all be loaded, but Stella failed to create nets for 5 of them, claiming possible accuracy errors, but who knows. I'll have a look sometime and see if I can shed any light on it. The eas...

Ah, it does now. Just had another look. I find it hard to navigate, but otherwise it seems to work OK. Are you planning to do much more to it?

Re: How to Build a Polyhedron Model

Hey Magnus, great to have you onboard :D How should the last piece be put in. This is also very tricky. For W34 I leave tabs all around the bottom of the five-facet nets, all of one color or of five different colors. The long spikes are all closed, and these are not too difficult to glue together by...

Looks like the edges would all be about 0.5 cms long, is that right? Sounds pretty fidgety to me!

Material - Oh yes, forgot about material. I have mostly used 120 gsm paper. Tried 160 gsm once, but found it just slightly too thick. The weight doesn't directly map to thickness necessarily though, and now I use a new paper I discovered. 140 gsm, and acid free, so presumably the colours won't fade...

The most complex model I made is the uniform compound of 5 great rhombicubeoctahedra (W85). Yeah, it looks great (already makes an appearance on my Stella Users' Models page along with some of your other constructions). Good to have you on board Piotr :D You and others reading this topic might also...

Paper model choices. Scissors/knife? Single/double tabs? etc

Just wandering what techniques other model-makers use. Scoring edges - I use a metal ruler and a doll-making needle (a needle about 18 cms long). Scissors/knife? - I use scissors. I get the feeling many people use a knife, but I find scissors more convenient and faster. If you leave tabs on every ed...

Just do it like this:

Code: Select all

And use the preview to make sure it's working (but don't forget to submit as well after that!).

I bet you only posted this so it would hook me in! ;) I wouldn't say "only" :D I am new to this forum, so I hope I am not repeating stuff the rest of you already know. The forum's for anyone and everyone, so don't worry about repeating anything people might already know. Like the snub cube (and all...

Faceted snub cube

I just discovered an interesting little faceting of the snub cube. Has anyone seen it before? It's interesting because it has just one face-type, an irregular pentagon no less, and it a true polyhedron, not a compound. The only other isohedral facetings (ie having just one face type) appear to be co...

What's the most complex model you've ever made?

What's the most complex model you've ever made :?: As for me, the model with the most parts was Miller's Monster (click for more photos) http://www.software3d.com/JPeg/Miller.jpg It has 1280 external face parts, with nets being printed by Stella onto 42 A4 pages. The model has a diameter of just ove...
