I made a similar model where the top vertices of the pentagrammic pyramids are pointing towards the center:

I glued the model with UHU hart, no threads were needed.

This is my model of Robert's facetted snub cube:

I call it "24 scalars".

Very nice model! It reminds me of a lamp Hans Schepker built, see:

If the lateral pentagons are regular and their edge length is 1, Stella tells me that the other edge length is 4.69217462142686, the acute angle is 29.8878°: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh82/Heinzzweidrei/gilson_penta.jpg metric data: 28 facelets, of 2 types; 70 edgelets; 44 vertices, of 4 ty...

I had a professional laser cutting service cut one of my patterns from rather thick paper (150 g/m²) and the result was really great! Very neat cutting of rather complicated star patterns, and the folding edges scored.

By the way, the same thing doesn't work with the snub dodecahedron, in case anyone was wondering, because the edges placed diagonally across the pentagons leave a pentagrammic hole to fill, where as those across the square faces of the snub cube meet others to close the shape. But at least that sha...

Re: Procedure to make compounds

Hi, I am trying to make a compound but am unable to find the procedure. I have a faceted tetrahedra that I want to make into a compound 5. Thanks for any help. You put the faceted tetrahedron into memory 1. Then you select the tetrahedron from the platonics and add the model from memory 1 by using ...

In the case of the coplanar pairs of faces of my five-octahedra-compound I always chose one "dominating" face, which defines the colour of the common area. In my Small Snub Icosicosidodecahedron, the common areas of the overlapping triangles are coloured red, while the outer parts are yellow resp. b...

Peter,

thanks! But it is stella that does the colouring automatically.

Nice idea! With less symmetric shapes it can be extended to any complexity. But that would call for an electronic version.

I would need six colours for the pentagrams and pentagons, another ten colours for the icosahedral triangles. Would I get away with the standard five colours for the snub triangles (as if they were a hexecontahedron), or would the intersecting faces prevent that from working? Using the system descr...

Yes, this is exactly what I did, and even colouring only the 20 faces is a pain if you want to use just 5 colours. So I wished to have all this done automatically. But when I proceeded to the nonconvex snub ones, I saw that things there are different and more complicated. So I'll be happy to do the ...
