Two reasons.

(1) Any model created (either internally or via import) is aligned to a template symmetry group.

(2) When exporting, the model is exported as seen on screen. So if you rotate the model on the screen, then it will be exported in a different orientation. I suggest using something from ...

Re: 2 Newbie questions

Hi Paul,

I'm not at home right now so I can't check, but I think the mitre angle is (180 - dihedral angle) / 2. It's the angle you need to set on a tool for mitring wood. Some people have said it should be different, but there seem to be different opinions about it, so I'm not sure.

To deselect ...

Stella on TV

Back in 2003 there was a story about Great Stella on TV.
You can see a bunch of my paper polyhedra here too.

I think I can answer your question.

Models are exported with the same orientation they have on the screen at the time of export. So if you rotate it to a weird angle, then it is exported at a weird angle. However this is intended as a feature...

Solution: select an option from the "View ...

Stella shows number of vertices in the Info window.

Otherwise, you could note that each vertex touches exactly one pentagon. There are 12 pentagons, and so 5 x 12 = 60 vertices.

I presume that question's for Guy? I only make models from paper. Just wanted to answer the part of the question I could :)

Circumradius (or out-radius) is simply referred to as "Radius". Technically speaking, a polyhedron may not have a circumradius, which would have to go through all points, so I just use the more generic term radius.

For others following this thread, Graham contacted me off-forum and the issue is resolved. No bug, just needed directions to the Shift+E setting (Display->Vertex & Edge Options->Show Stellation Edges).

With this enabled, you can see the edges of the stellation, even in the base view, so as you hit ...

It shouldn't behave any differently on a PC or a laptop. Did you try viewing the same stellation on each? When you say "it's not there", what do you mean exactly? Does it continue to show the original shape, or does it show nothing at all? Maybe email me a screen shot (see the Contacts page on the ...

I thought about 4D dual morphing before, but haven't got around to it yet. I guess all you'd be able to see during the morph is the 3D projection, ie not cross-sections or nets, though you could convert a morph to be the new base model to obtain those.

For morph by rectangles (maybe I should rename ...

Nets are made from whatever appears in the stellation view, so have a look at the stellation view to see what's happening. You can also try the 3D folding net view to see how the nets fold up.

Now the stellation view, by default, figures out which stellation chunks are required to recreate the ...
