Re: Problem with OFF files

It's always possible Stella has it wrong too. Unless the results you're getting are obviously wrong somehow?

Re: Problem with OFF files

OK glad that worked.

Been a long time since I did the 4D Waterman stuff, so I don't remember how exactly, but I think it was a pretty direct extrapolation from 3D. The hardest part is probably getting the 4D convex hull algorithm to work, but if you're using qhull then I expect that should work.

Re: Problem with OFF files

I just tried copying and pasting your OFF into a file and Stella opened it without complaint. The only thing I can think of is that maybe your original file might have a BOM (byte order mark) at the start of the file. The "OFF" has to be the very first thing. Unfortunately if you open it in a text e...

Re: Truncation animation

The triangles and pentagons don't meet at square vertices. Cut any amount off and it will always be a rectangle. If you could "untruncate" the one with true squares, you'd end up with extra little edges where you were expecting vertices. I think they went with the name anyway since it's a truncation...

Re: Truncation animation

First worth mentioning that the truncation of an icosidodecahedron is not perfect: a true truncation will have rectangles rather than squares. 1. Load an icosidodecahedron 2. Select the net view (by clicking in it) and change it to the "Morph Duals by Truncation" view 3. You can interactively morph ...

I'm afraid it's still unlikely to be any time soon. Buried in other projects at the moment. But I do want to get back to it.

Re: Add Truncated Trapezohedra

It's not possible to make the pentagons regular. If it was you would have discovered new Johson solids. But the top and bottom polygons are regular.

New single "Thought Bubble" with Voronoi video

Off topic, but I've been making music over the last few years. I just released my second official single, and made a video for it based on Voronoi diagrams. Might be of interest to someone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHMNJCS39T4 Landing page for links to stream, watch, follow etc: https://push....

Re: Add Truncated Trapezohedra

I like to think of the octahedron as a triangular antiprism. It's not too hard to make the polyhedra you want in Stella. It's a bit arbitrary though as to how truncated the points are. Start with an antiprism, eg a square antiprism if you want to make a truncated square trapezohedron. You'll notice ...

Re: Stella Course?

Yeah it would be good, but alas I haven't made a course. Best I have for now is the tutorial page here: https://www.software3d.com/Tutorials.php But there's not a lot on it. The main thing is the first link on that page which goes to an introductory tutorial: http://youtu.be/W1PdTbphxP4 But I edited...

Glad to help. Now you can do similar for various other Archimedean duals too.

Re: Is there a way to flip a convex group of faces to concave?

It can be done, but there's not a specific operation for it. Here's what I'd do... Cut off one of the convex peaks using faceting mode. First, drop to the "3-fold pyramidal" subsymmetry group, so we can concentrate on just one peak. Show the original shape in one view, and the faceting preview in an...

Re: Opening tour, Stella closes

Just to follow this up for anyone else reading, melograno has fixed their issue now. It was related to moving the .tour files to a new folder. Probbaly because the full path of the new folder was just too long, and Stella has a limit on this. Also if you move a .tour file, it may not be able to find...

The screenshot doesn't tell me much.

Here are two example .tour files which work for me. Can you load these?
