Nice job Ulrich. How did you do it? Rex forwarded the .stel files to me. They fail when attempting stellation (of the single icosahedron) due to inaccuracies. It seems some edge lengths that should be equal are only accurate to within 6 decimal places (Stella prefers 10 or more). So I'm wondering ho...

Re: OH! Isn't that BEAUTIFUL?

In attempting to cut the preset Stewart toroid, I was aiming for the edges next to the two icosahedra on the right and left; the ones that don't conjoin to the like face that the other ones do. Ah, I found how to do it and have fixed it (am in the middle of changes though so you won't see the fix f...

George Hart's comment that it's not exact seems to confirm what I found, that the model doesn't really exist using regular icosahedra. The icosahedra must be distorted in order to force the loop to close. That's not so easy to make happen in Stella. Thinking about it, you need an angle of 45 degrees...

Cutting mode is for redesigning nets only, it can not be used to change the model itself. Could you tell me what edges you cut to cause the error though? The way to do what you want would be via augmentation mode ( see manual ). But when I try this I get a shape that doesn't close: http://i225.photo...

Oh, that's annoying. I've just changed that setting so an initial post is no longer required. Early on there was a bunch of spammers, but I seem to have fixed that :D

Re: Mitre Angle

Larry,

You may well be right. I added that feature at the request of another carpenter (but can't remember who now). I'm no carpenter, so I relied on his terminology. I can change it if you think "bevel angle" is more appropriate.

Any other carpenters here wish to comment?

Hmmm I seem to be having a similar problem in version 2.5.1, my clicks do register, but on the wrong side of the objects. So far it has affected all of the ones I've tried to play. It seems to work fine here. When you say wrong side, do you mean on the back of the model instead of the front, or on ...

Schlegel diagrams are not directly supported as such, but they are really just extreme perspective projections, which are already possible. When you view the 120-cell in Stella4D, it should already have this appearance be default. For some more complex polytopes a more extreme perspective is require...

Cool, I didn't know there was such a thing. I believe it always works in 2D, that any non self-intersecting polygon can be divided into triangles just using the original vertices. I hadn't realised that the equivalent wasn't always possible in 3D.

Also, you'll find that both have already been provided with Great Stella and Stella4D! Look in Stella Library -> More Stewart Toroids. They're not really Stewart toroids, but they are toroids and do appear in his book. You'll find both Csaszar and Szilassi in there.

Re: Putting an Agmentation into memory

You could use faceting mode to create the faces you need for just that part.

Sure. You should probably do that in the Polyhedron Models forum.

Hmm, I just tried with more than 7 layers and it didn't complain. Sometimes accumulation of errors can be a problem, but mostly only when stellation is involved (which is often the case when creating nets). If you get a message saying "Warning: this model may be too complex to stellate" then you're ...

Re: One or two observations

1.... I am not sure how to augment to a specific face .... I think I am missing some important selection process.... before I press the 'a' key Just select a face first using Shift+Left-click, or double-click on a face. Make sure you're in the default mode first, not faceting mode or anything (hit ...
