Actually filling in the gad cells completely would be like filling in the octagrams of groh completely (which we do when making models) We normally do fill it in, that's true, and you're right that we could consider them membranes. But a cross-section should then still show the regions below them a...

Re: Schoenflies Notation

To me, an additional drop down that would contain the Schoenflies notation would be very helpful, even if it contained a lot of entries (that would make it even more interesting to me!). Well, believe it or not, I just finished adding this! I now have a drop-down showing the standard symmetry symbo...

Re: Schoenflies Notation

Other Stella users might want to comment on showing Schoenflies notation symbols for symmetry. It's a good idea, after our other discussion I was already thinking I should add them, although the labels are not terribly user-friendly and a drop-down list showing all the subsymmetries would be pretty...

It is not necessary to identify "zero density" with "outside and unfilled". We may define "outside" as any (continuous) region of space which contains infinitely many lines which do not meet our polytope. We then understand interior "holes" of zero density as being disconnected from the outside and...

Actually it's worse than this, because even some orientables look pretty hollow, like sadsadox: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd237/RobertCWebb/1474-Sadsadox-Slice0024-1.gif Sadsadox is orientable, so we can fill all non-zero density regions, but it's elements still align so that slices have ma...

...fill it's cells according to their orientability as opposed to the orientability of the polychoron itself For the problem with this, see example in my post above. The polyhedron is non-orientable, but the cross-section, a pentagram, is orientable. If I fill the pentagram's centre, then the cross...

Filling cross-sections

Hi Jonathan B (aka Jabe on this forum) and anyone interested in how to fill polytopes. You wrote on your site ( http://www.polytope.net/hedrondude/polychora.htm ): Robert Webb, the designer of Stella software, has recently created Stella4D, which shows sections of all of the uniform polychora, altho...

Re: thin glass?

I`m amazed of your models and the Software..! They look fantastic, especially those complicated ones! I guess it requires a lot of work to make a proper-made good looking model, so I`m double amazed.. Thanks! I had an idea of making models by using thin glass. I haven't tried and don't know much ab...

Yes, this is my plan if I do a true 3D version.

Now that I think about it, Replace Throughout should probably apply to base and dual together. Stella won't normally give base/dual faces any of the same colours unless it's a compound, so it would mostly only make a difference for compounds, and in that case you probably want the colour changed in ...

Hmm, not sure what that's about. When I try, it always colours duals of compounds with one colour per component. They are not inherited from the original model. I wonder what you're doing differently. Can you find a simple reproducable example? Oh hang on, here's a thought. What do you use to change...

Well done, although pretty confusing  Can I suggest you don't call them by the same name as my program? Currently you're calling the 3D one MineSweeper 3D. Well, it's the same except you've got an extra space in it  If I ever did do a 4D one, obviously it would be called MineSweeper4D too...

Hey, sorry I didn't get around to replying earlier. Sounds like you're on the right track though. 4D cross product takes 3 vectors as input to produce a 4th. You need to search around the net for info on 4D transforms, although some of it's still hard to follow. Remember, in 4D rotation is about a p...

A course in Stella

Thought this might be of interest to a few of you. George Hart is including some assignments using Great Stella in his Computers and Sculpture class at Stony Brook University. Here's the link: http://www.cs.sunysb.edu/~cse325/GreatStella.html It focuses on using augmentation to build larger structur...
