Sorry, no you can't export a single face as a 2D dxf. Stella only exports full models as 3D dxf.

If you export the whole model though, doesn't that have the faces you need within it?

I'm not sure what math your after. Different shapes are made different ways. Many categories, like uniform polyhedra, stellations, etc took me a long time to get working, and were not really just implemented based on any standard formulas or algorithms.

It sounds like you want to create these ...

The obvious question: did you change anything in your system in the last week or so? Doesn't XP tell you when it's doing an update?

Sorry, not sure what's going on there. "Lately" you say? So it used to run fast?

Some versions back I changed the way mouse events were handled, but it was meant to make things faster, not slower. I may change it back sometime.

I may add ability to export animations in next major release, for things like 3D rotation and dual morphing. Might be limited to AVIs at first, although animated gifs would also be nice. Not sure about exporting each frame as a 3D model, but also possible.

I'm hesitant to export 4D rotations and 4D ...

Hmm, maybe someday. At least this would be easier than 4D faceting, which is more dependent on understanding the full symmetry of the model in question. Currently Stella doesn't really know the full symmetry of 4D models like it does for 3D models. Cell/face/edge/vertex types are all established ...

Hi, sorry for this reply to take so long, but just a couple of comments.

I agree, tabs would be handy. I've already got it somewhere on my to-do list, including the idea of calculating the angle to taper out the tabs at each end. There'd be some maximum angle, but a lesser angle as you say when ...

No, because when in rhombic dodecahedral form, there are some gaps inside (although the orange parts do fold flat against each other).

However it is true of the rhombic dodecahedron, that it has twice the volume of a cube whose edge is the length of one of the rhombus's short diagonals.

Dodecahedral Shape-shifter

Hey,

I just uploaded photos of a new shape I made. This one is flexible! It can transform between a regular dodecahedron and a rhombic dodecahedron.

There's even a YouTube video of it in action :)

Models are exported with all their 3D coordinates to the 3D DXF format. I'm not even sure what would happen if you then try to import it into a 2D package like Corel Designer. I guess the simple answer is no, you can't hide edges from the back of the model when exporting to DXF. Being a 3D model it ...

Interesting. I hadn't heard of it, although I think the same thing has been made in plastic now, as a modification to the megaminx puzzle.

I'd love to see pictures of it, especially the insides. I wonder how well it operated. No doubt its mechanics worked better than mine :?

New Rubik's Cube-style puzzle made from paper

Hi folks,

I just posted pictures of a Rubik's Cube-style puzzle I made from paper with help from Stella. Unfortunately it's a bit too temperamental to really use as a puzzle, but it does work if you do the twising very carefully and help parts to go where they should.

Here's the page: http://www ...

Polyhedral display cases

Hi all,

I just moved to a new apartment, and bought two new display cases for my polyhedra. It's a nice way to present them I think. You can see bigger images here: http://www.software3d.com/DisplayCases.php .

Sorry for the radio silence lately. I've been moving house and had trouble getting internet connected again!

Faceting in 4D presents some problems. In 3D, a facet is repeated over the symmetry group, but in 4D I don't know what the symmetries are! Stella4D does a good job of identifying cells/faces ...
