Updated forum!

Post by robertw »

Welcome to the new-look forums!

After much difficulty, I finally managed to migrate this forum from phpBB2 to phpBB3. So what does this mean?
  • You can now post images easily! Just click on the "Add image to post" link below when typing your post. You can upload or copy/paste images without the need to create a separate account on an image-hosting site, and the required code will be inserted into your post automatically.

  • Go to a forum and click "Subscribe forum" at the bottom to receive notifications for posts on that forum.
  • New look with some custom imagery.
  • For me it means not getting hundreds of account requests per week from spammers, which in turn means I can let users activate their own accounts now, rather than having to wait for me.
  • All the other features and fixes of phpBB3.
What do you think?

I've updated the site from PHP 5.4 to PHP 7.4, and the forums from phpBB 3.2.2 to phpBB 3.3.14. Required quite a bit of work. Been on my to-do list for years! The site's been running slow lately and sometimes giving 503 errors, so hoping this might help.

I think everything is working again, but let me know if you have any issues.

Thank you for this! It was well worth the effort; the site is much improved.

Thanks for letting me know. It's definitely running faster now, but I don't know if that's just because it got kind of rebooted. I'll see if it gets worse again over time.
