RageRover FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Can I add a link to your web site?

A: YES! Please do!

Q: When are next week's playlists available?

A: It varies, but usually early Friday afternoon.

Q: What are the minimum requirements?

A: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7. And an internet connection.

Q: Will you port to Mac or Linux?

A: No.

Q: Rage already puts their playlists up online, so why do I need this program?

A: Rage usually shows about 300 video clips each weekend. There's no easy way to know when the songs you like will be on. I wanted this program myself because I didn't want to manually browse through the playlists every week, especially in the hope of finding rare tracks that might only be on once in a blue moon. RageRover won't let anything of interest slip past!

I also find it an easier way to browse the playlists.

Q: How is the matching done? Should I enter "The Clash" or just "Clash"? "Frente" or "Frente!"? "Bjork" or "Björk"? "REM" or "R.E.M."? "PJ Harvey" or "P J Harvey"?

A: I have tried to be clever in the way names are matched. In all of the above cases it wouldn't matter which one you entered, the match would still be found. Case is not important, punctuation is not important, even spaces are not important. Foreign characters that are used in our language like "ö" will match equally well with or without their accents ("o" in this case). The word "the" is ignored at the start, and some common variations in spelling are handled (eg "color" vs. "colour").

In fact, if two artists work together, such as "Dare" by "Gorillaz featuring Shaun Ryder", the song will be matched if you have either artist in your list.

Q: Why do some times have "~" before them?

A: Rage's playlists only show the time of songs every half an hour or so, so RageRover guesses the times of the intermediate songs, presuming the songs in each block are all the same length. These times have "~" before them to indicate that they are only approximations. It should be pointed out however that even the times given in Rage's original playlists may not be accurate, although they are usually pretty close.
